1955

In 1955 this is the State Abattoir at Homebush: long sheds in the middle, stockyards beside the railway, and holding paddocks dotted with trees all around. The pale hole at the top right is the State Brickworks pit.

2005

By 2005 the abattoir is gone. The Olympic stadium sits in the middle of the old paddocks, with the showground, the arena and the athletics track around it, and a railway loop running through. The brick pit is still there, now filled with water.

The abattoir closed in the 1980s, and the site was rebuilt for the 2000 Olympic Games.
